Welcome Back!

It's the FINAL COUNTDOWN! Now that the Europe song is stuck in your head--it is time to live LIFE IN THE FASTLANE.  Oops, I did it again with all of the references to music.  Alright, I am done.

We are literally going to fly through these last weeks so hold on. As I have shared over the last several weeks of communications, the upcoming long term schedule demonstrates the volume of tasks and events going on at CHS. As we march through the transition to this new season, we are longing for a stretch of dry and sunny days. It certainly has been beautiful around here lately! Enjoy every moment!

With or without the beautiful weather, this year has taught us the importance of patience and perseverance. Being patient creates opportunities for growth inside of us which will help us nurture our response to difficult moments. The next two months are going to pass us by in a blink of an eye. It is so important to pause and reflect on each opportunity in front of us. Likewise, demonstrating patience will expand our ability to persevere through moments in our lives that impact us at school, sports, our jobs, and even relationships.

As we have shared numerous times throughout this year, our response to any event creates the outcome that we expect. We are waiting on official approval from the health department regarding many events in our monthly calendar such as prom, and graduation. As soon as they are approved, you will know the details.

So, to model this for you I am going to end this portion of the
Week in Reflection by exclaiming that it is a perfect day to be the best version of ourselves and seize the opportunities in front of us during this beautiful time of year!

AIR Tests at CHS

As we enter deeper into April and May, we are continuing our preparations at Chardon High School for the upcoming AIR exams.  The AIR exams are end-of-course exams mandated by the state of Ohio, and students (grades 9-12) earn graduation points regarding their results. However, Chardon High School will still administer the US History exam for the purpose of attaining graduation seals for all students on the permanent pathway particularly in the class of 2023. Students will take the AIR exams as described below. Here are a few AIR End of Course Testing updates that you need to know.

National Honors Society

On Tuesday, April 6th, we finally were able to celebrate our first academic awards ceremony INSIDE of the building with a limited crowd.  The ceremony was a beautiful reminder of normalcy, leadership, and perseverance. Special thanks to Mr. Brown, Mr. Mizen, our NHS Officers (current and future), our health department for allowing this event along with G-TV for technical assistance to make this event happen. Special congratulations to our seniors who will be receiving their NHS cords as soon as they arrive. Enclosed is the ceremony, program, photos, and new inductees.

SOAR: (SENIORS) Student Opportunities in Aviation Repair

CRT is hosting a Co-Op for graduating seniors in the month of June. The program is titled “SOAR” – Student Opportunities in Aviation Repair. We first ran the program in June of 2019. We had planned on running the program again this past year but had to scale back based on the environment caused by Covid19. We are back on track for this year and excited to get this started again. The application process is open through next Friday, April 16th and we have room for a couple more graduates.

Here is the link for students to apply:
https://jobs.lever.co/componentrepairtechnologies/de2e9bd8-9c19-4a96-8be9-a296a5648929

This program is designed for graduates that are looking for opportunities and exposure to technical career fields. This is not designed as an alternative to college. The career paths these participants will gain exposure to are highly technical, well paid career fields and many of the folks in these career fields do obtain industry recognized credentials, Associate and Bachelor degrees while working full time.

What to Expect:
  • Four-week immersive Co-Op experience in June 2021.
  • The opportunity to earn income while exploring several manufacturing career paths such as         Machining, Non-Destructive Testing, Inspection, Welding and Industrial Maintenance.
  • An opportunity for a full-time job offer following the successful completion of the Co-Op experience.

Each week the Co-Op will spend a portion of their experience working in entry level positions on our shop floor, while also having the opportunity to shadow and learn about the four career paths listed above. In addition, we will have extra-curricular activities provided for the group where the Co-Op’s will connect with their peers and share their experiences in a fun and structured setting.

Throughout the four weeks we will provide formal, intentional soft skill training designed to help prepare the co-op for whatever career path they may choose. We will have representatives from local Community and State Colleges on hand as well to discuss blended learning programs with the group such as certificate or degree programs that can be obtained part-time while working in a full-time capacity. CRT supports a culture of continuous learning and employees who have been with the company for more than one year will be eligible for tuition reimbursement in their chosen fields.
