@chs_dmurray: A week in reflection

Friends:
What an amazing week for the 'Toppers. I am so proud of the effort, positive attitude, and approach that our students have demonstrated during the warm days. We are truly grateful for the focus that our staff has placed on learning, and school spirit. People often asks me what makes Chardon different. The answer lives in the hearts of our students and staff who live each day with a purpose and truly care for the values that surround them. We are proud to live the mission and vision of our treasured traditions. Tonight, we are able to come together as a community to cheer on our ' Toppers! Thank you for sharing your children with us!

@chs_dmurray :Week in Reflection

We had an extraordinary week at Chardon High School.  From start to finish- the focus on learning and the excitement that surround a new academic year was filled with life.

Monday was truly the benchmark of the week. The teachers were collaborating across the curriculum and focusing on PLC refinement along with defining ways to build upon learning outcomes. Their passion, and love for their individual purpose (in and out of the classroom) created the energy for the week. Later in the evening, our staff was able to share a meal together and welcome new students and all Freshman to Topper Nation. The orientation gave the students the opportunity to meet their teachers, engage in conversation with student mentors, and learn about the many ways that students can join clubs, activities, and service opportunities that we have at CHS.

On Tuesday, we welcomed the entire district to Chardon High School for our opening convocation along with having building level meetings to commence opening day. Throughout the day, teachers met in department meetings along with preparing their room for students.

Wednesday couldn't have been any better! Our students were back at school and were absolutely full of energy! From the high-fives, to reminiscing the stories of the summer--students were getting back into the swing of school. The most memorable moments from this day was watching our students help each other. All day long, students of every grade level-- along with all of our adults were guiding students throughout the building and making sure that students felt connected. As a graduate, I couldn't have wrote a better story to the day. We have tremendous students engaging with caring adults! We are truly blessed at Chardon High School.

Thursday and Friday were no different. Teachers engaging students and students facilitating learning. Every student  began feeling more and more comfortable with their schedule and how to get to certain classes.  Ms. Kisabeth and Mr. Bandiera were joining students in class lessons, and I had the opportunity to commence the first "high-five" Friday of the year.

I have shared in 17 opening days as an educator, but this was certainly one to remember! I personally want to thank all of the office staff, custodians, cafeteria workers, maintenance, our teachers, and all of the students for a rock-solid effort to the first week. Keep focusing on your purpose, your goals, and how you can refine what you can control each week.  As I said back in July when I was blessed to lead my alma mater, "Coming together is just the beginning, staying together will lead our progress, and working together will transform lives for generations of Hilltoppers".

Thank you for who you are, and what we can become--together.
