AC4P

Picture

Last week, our student led ACT (Administrative Core Team) presented on their principles of “Sandy Hook Promise.”  The presentation was based on what the team learned at their training at Orange High School in the fall.  The students focused on talking to your “trusted adult” and keeping your eyes and ears open for problems with your friends.  The message our students shared blended perfectly with our AC4P movement we have been growing.  The students were able to spend the morning working with Shane McCarty from the COR Foundation and our own Dominic Ferrante.  Our groups tried to identify what our ideal school would look like and how we can actively choose to make it that way.  A huge thank you to our student leaders for having the courage to speak in front of the entire school.

Justin Stanko, Mason Metz, Jackson Condon, Kaitlyn O’Hara, Marissa Pericco, Miranda Harper, TeAira Long, Megan Chapin, Deanna Ogrinc, Rachel Banks, Stephen Blauch, Laurel Grae, and Cassidy Baker.  We are very proud of their leadership!

Spring Musical

Come out and enjoy our talented thespians.  This year’s musical is Aida. This timeless love story takes place in Egypt and is sure to entertain all audiences.  The music is written by Elton John and the play was originally produced by Walt Disney Productions.  In 2000, Aida was nominated for 5 Tony Award’s.  Hope to see you at Park Auditorium.
The play runs:

Thursday     7:00 PM
Friday          7:00 PM
Saturday      7:00 PM
Sunday        2:00 PM

#UToppers

The following have been nominated for a #UToppers recognition.  We will host all of these folks for a pizza lunch and thank them for their positive contribution to the culture and climate of CHS.  I have also included the names of employees or students who nominated the winners.

Phone System

We are pleased to announce that on Tuesday, March 15th, the Chardon Local School District transitioned to a new Voice over IP (VoIP) phone system.  There are many benefits to this new system, including significant cost-savings, and we eagerly anticipate this change.  Please note that the district's main number,  school building main numbers, and staff phone numbers will all remain the same.

As part of the new system, we will be launching an auto-attendant feature. For example, if you call any of the main school numbers you will be offered a dialing menu of options from which to choose, which will route your call  more quickly and efficiently. Additionally, all phone extensions will be equipped to receive voice mail including all teachers!

To access the extensions of your son or daughter's teacher, please click here. Be sure to bookmark this page for future reference.

CHARDON SCIENCE OLYMPIANS VICTORIUS AT REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHARDON, OHIO, February 2016 – “They blinded us with SCIENCE!” On Saturday, February 20, 2016, Chardon Science Olympiad sent three teams to the Regional Championships held at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Two Division B teams (Grades 6-9) and one Division C team (Grades 9-12) faced tough competition comprised of schools from Northeast Ohio. The High School team placed 2 nd out of 21 schools and the Middle School team placed 4th out of 23 schools. Medals were given to the top three standings per event and trophies awarded to the top three teams. The top seven teams advance to the State Competition which will be held at The Ohio State University in Columbus on April 9, 2016.
The goal of Science Olympiad is to improve the quality of science education through competitions similar to sporting events. Students compete in 23 events related to Social Science, Earth and Space Science, Physical Science and Chemistry, Technology and Engineering, and Inquiry and Natural Science. The Chardon Science Olympiad teams are led by Dr. Anne Clouser and Jake Adams with competition events mentored by community volunteers, including experts, professionals and team parents. Past teams have attended the national tournament several times and each group works towards the goal of competing each season. The 2016 National Tournament will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, May 18-21.
