Important News the College Board for all @chardonhs students

From the College Board via Chardon Guidance:

As we informed you earlier this month, processing is taking longer than expected for SAT® electronic score reports sent to K–12 institutions. While we hoped to get them to K–12 institutions by the end of the month, we must continue to prioritize the delivery of student scores to colleges. You can now expect your reports by the end of January. We apologize for this inconvenience and realize that you depend on these reports to counsel your students on their next steps. Students can view their SAT scores online by logging in to their College Board account and clicking View & Send Scores. One interim option is to ask students to share their reports for discussion. This change affects K–12 institutions that formerly received SAT score reports via CD. Institutions that receive SAT paper score reports will continue to get scores via paper. We'll provide more specific delivery information as soon as we have it. Please share this communication with colleagues in your school as needed.

Thank you,

The College Board

December Update

CHARDON HIGH SCHOOL

On December 9th, a group of our students represented Chardon High School by participating in the S.A.D.D. summit at the Quicken Loans Arena.  While there our students were fortunate to hear Billy Cordiss speak, they were also able to collaborate with other schools like Solon and Brecksville-Broadview Heights.  After discussing Billy’s message of taking action and ownership of one’s feelings and choices, our students were able to stay for the Cav’s game v. Portland Trailblazers.

Future Business Leaders of America

A new club is going to be offered to our students next semester.  Mrs. Eby will be facilitating the Future Business Leaders of America.  This group will work similarly to Science Olympiad in that members will compete against other clubs solving problems and developing business models.

Future Business Leaders of America

We are looking forward to growing this program and developing the community relationships needed to prepare our teams for competition.

Potential Bell Changes for 2016-2017

At Chardon High School, we have been investigating a possible bell schedule change for 2016-2017.  Our belief is that our students would greatly benefit from additional minutes of instruction everyday.  We are also attempting to create a schedule that allows for some creativity during the day for students to explore options.  This exploratory time would be called “Topper Time” and could be used for enrichment or reinforcement.  Some of the examples our team has been discussing are below.

Bell Schedule Options

We have had several informal conversations with our student leadership groups.  They have identified some area of weakness in our schedule that we are continuing to address.  There will be more news about these potential changes in coming months.

Mrs. Robinson completed the mock interview lessons in her Careers Class last week.  Students had the opportunity to present themselves to a mock employer.  The students developed a resume and learned about ways to discuss their strengths in an interview setting.  Many thanks to all of the teachers, support staff, and administrators that volunteered to be employers looking for employees.

Next Week is the End of the Semester

Please find our
midterm exam schedule for the week of December 14.  Monday and Tuesday will be regular class days.  There will be no late start on Tuesday.  Wednesday and Thursday will be our exam days.  Students are required to attend all of their classes,  unless they have lunch or study hall on their schedule.  Those lunch and study hall periods will be open campus for our students.  For instance, if your child has lunch 7/8, they are permitted to leave at 10:30 and return at 1:10 for their 10 period exam.  All
academic courses will be meeting, including Freshmen Mentoring.  December 18, 2015 is the last day of the first semester.

Friday, December 18 is a required day at Chardon High School.  Please note there will be  a late start day for our students.  Staff will be meeting with their collaborative teams in the AM to further their discussions in their professional learning communities.  Students will also have time to complete exams and review them during the day with their teachers.  At the end of the day we will be hosting recording artists, Walk Off Hits from Las Vegas, Nevada.  They have agreed to play a concert at Chardon High School, as they pass through Cleveland on their national tour.  Their lead singer, Ross LaMarca, is a  former Hilltopper.
