The Week in Reflection 5/5

Celebrating  Today

Picture
It is few and far between that May 5th falls on Friday. After thousands of tests were deployed this week, it certainly time to celebrate! Although, many in the United States celebrate the cuisine on this day, this day has a greater significance to the culture and historical significance of May 5, 1862.

Regardless of how you are celebrating, we are very excited about the end of state testing season. The planning and preparation that goes into state testing are expected, but not enough recognition goes into the work that our administration, counselors, and intervention specialists put in to make the test accessible. I would like to take a moment to thank Mr. Higham for his work to run the testing system this week, Mr. Hurlbut for running AP Testing, and Ms. Pavicic and Heather Patterson for running MAP Testing! Of course, we cannot forget the unbelievable focus that our teachers and students placed into preparing and learning the benchmarks and standards that create the data that we long to see!

Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

Picture
It is that time of the year when I quote a song. The best one that comes to mind after this week's academic events is Kool & The Gang's-Celebration.

After a action filled week with some crazy weather, it is time to celebrate good times! It is easy to get lost in all of the tests, communications, tasks, meetings, and re-scheduled events. It is so important to reflect on all of the positives and ways that those we encountered where influenced by our care.

This week, I saw the following actions to celebrate!
  • Several students holding the door for others.
  • Thousands of students working meticulously on AP Tests, and End of Course Exams.
  • A group of students moving tables and sitting with a student who was having a rough day.
  • Hunter Greco and Brandon Fatur signed a National Letter of Intent to play college baseball.
  • Our CBI Teachers were recognized for their Innovation, and Creativity for their program.
  • Our parent volunteers continued to plan and organize After Prom which is one week away!
  • We celebrated more senior night events at Chardon Memorial Field.
  • Our teachers collaborated in Professional Learning Communities preparing for the end of the year.
  • The sun came out! The April showers will bring out all of the May flowers.
  • We collected canned goods for the Geauga County Food Drive.

As we inch closer to the end of the quarter--Be You, Be Kind, Believe! The finish line is just around the corner.

SNHS: A Message From Morghan Kuzma

Picture
I’m happy to announce that CHS now offers a new organization for science minded students who want to explore careers in science, get hands-on in-person experience, mentor underclassmen, and to give to our school community.  Chardon is starting a Chapter of Science National Honors Society.  Similar to NHS, SNHS will launch in school year 2023-2024 for current sophomores going into their junior year, and juniors going into their senior year.  SNHS candidates must have a 3.0 GPA or higher with a B average currently enrolled in an Honors or AP science class.  As a member of SNHS, we will participate in the planning of the CMS science fair, research interesting scientific current events, and learn about careers in science from guest speakers from such as a physicists, biochemists or soil ecologists. All SNHS members will be required to complete one hour of tutoring each quarter, which can also go toward NHS hour requirements.  This is an incredible opportunity to join Ohio’s second SNHS right here at CHS!  Not only will this be impressive on college applications but SNHS is a scholarship granting body, and can connect students to research opportunities in the area.  Interested in learning more?  Contact Morghan Kuzma to learn about our informational meeting!
