@chs_dmurray: Week in Reflection

A Season of Memories

The core values of Chardon permeated the historical season for all of our Hilltoppers!

Since opening day, we have been mesmerized by the beauty of a band that has worked tremendously to create the sounds to the backdrop of a memorable season. The Chardon High School Marching Band  demonstrated week to week high achievement.   We have all been witnesses to the strongest fan-base in high school sports. Our Chardon Crazies demonstrate each week what makes a strong community. Game after game, we were impressed by the athleticism and humility of the young men competing on the field. Our school was once again impressed by the XC teams, and the countless awards from our Tennis, Soccer, and Volleyball teams. The respect, and rapport of our Topperettes and Majorettes impressed not only the fans, but the countless students that looked up to their strength, and rhythm. This year, like every other year, our community fan base demonstrated energy, passion, love, and modeled dignity as representatives of our greater community. All season long we were overwhelmed by the creativity, optimism, pure joy, and countless moments of kindness that our Cheerleaders provided to us. Finally, we are grateful for the nurturing mentorship that our coaches modeled for every member of our larger community at CHS. We are forever grateful for a the memories, Thank you for leading us down this historical season.

Language Arts LIVE

Language Arts Live! is a speaker and resource program which provides students with examples of how the knowledge they acquire in the classroom translates to the professional world and life beyond high school.  The objectives are for students to be able to better understand the various reading, writing and communication skills they are currently learning and to then be able to apply these skills meaningfully to their lives.

The key to the success of this series is parental and community involvement which reinforces our CHARDON core values. This week, Jeremy Guy, CJ Paternitti, John Hofstetter, Laurie Thompson, Sheri Wright, Mary Owen, Madelon Horvath, and Dr. Michael Hanlon participated in a panel discussion regarding the use of language and communication skills in various settings. Our seniors, in preparation for college and career readiness, are exploring technical and career writing with the help of mentors currently in the professions to which the seniors aspire. Special thanks to Dawn Weaver, and Lynn Monaco for providing this opportunity for our students!

Future Business Leaders of America

Last week, ten students from Chardon High's chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) had the opportunity to participate in a business meeting, and tour the facilities of Cardinal Credit Union in Mentor.

FBLA members are preparing to open a student-run branch of Cardinal Credit Union in Chardon High School. With a branch located in the school, all students will be provided the chance to open fee-free accounts and develop sound financial habits. More details of this exciting hands-on learning opportunity to come.

Chardon High FBLA President, Connor Morris, said about this future business endeavor, "A student run credit union at CHS will be a great addition because it will allow each student to learn about money management. It will also allow students to learn important business and life skills. Students should look for information second semester on how to open an account."

Let's get Physic(al)

Most of us love the dear old Earth, in fact we’re quite attracted to it. That attraction arises from the Earth’s large mass, not the fact that it is spinning. When we lift a book away from the center of the Earth, we do work on that book. We do work because we must counteract its attraction to the Earth in the process. We do work by applying a force over a distance. What does that do for us? Well, it tires us. The book, however, gets energy out of the deal. The students in Mr. Ciferno's AP Physics classes are learning the connection between work, energy, and power this week in a work energy lab.

Graduation Requirements

Today, we are mailing home personalized letters to all families pertaining to your student(s) individual points that he/she has earned through the End of Course Exams. This letter will provide a clear track of the path that your student(s) are on. After reading the letter, please feel free to contact any of the school counselors, or administrators to assist you with your questions. Further details will follow about our Fall Testing dates.

Fall Play

17 years of plays and musicals can lead to seeing many productions...but there is one thing that stands out at CHS...transformative acting, and performing. Whether observing as a student in the 90's or as an administrator today, our cast and crew are the best in the business. I highly recommend taking the time to see our Fall Play.

It is hard to believe that I am talking about the end of the semester. To improve upon your planning, and student preparation for their midterms- the following schedule is now set for the end of the quarter. All students are required to be present for ALL academic class time, but may treat study halls and their lunch period as an open campus. Please review the schedule below.
